19th A3 FEST HELD AT MUSEUM AND ART GALLERY, CHANDIGARH
A3 Foundation, the foundation entirely involved in the promotion of sustainable art and architecture in the region. Today, the foundation held its 19th A3 fest, at museum and art gallery, sec-10, chandigarh. The theme of the seminar was ‘Green Revolution’ and ‘Sustainable Architecture’.Mr.Ashish Rakheja of Spectral Consultants based in New Delhi was the main speaker of the day who elaborated on the system and establishment of Green Buildings. He emphasized on the importance of green buildings which are very important in the future as the energy, both natural and man made is depleting day by day.
Ar. Sangeet Sharma, who is also the founder chairman of A3 Foundation, presented his talk on practical sustainability’. He showed his built projects which have been awarded by various national organisations for adopting ‘Sustainable measures in its planning approach. He, being a practising architect, highlighted the importance of applying the principles of sustainability, than simply reading and talking about it needed courage to adopt these principles as the end product is a culmination of practice, aesthetics, services, landscape, materials and incorporation of the natural factors like sun , air and greenery in designing . He showed his KMG IT towers, Boys hostel at NIPER Mohali and buildings in Jammu University.Recently Ar.SangeetSharma was awarded ‘Best Sustainable Building Award’ by Archi-design on 12th March 2010.
The event also witnessed the facilitation of Dr. Gaurav Chhabra of “HUM LOG” an NGO which he runs. Dr. Chhabra was conferred the prestigious ‘Young Achievers Award ‘for his contribution in restoring chandigarh heritage. The coveted ‘S.D.Sharma Award’ for Best Sustainable Design was given to Arjun Uppal of N.I.T Hamirpur. The award was given by S.D Sharma, an eminent architect.
The overall rolling A3 Foundation trophy was won by Giani Zail Singh College of Engg. & Technology,Bathinda.
Post lunch, an architectural game called design jamboree was conducted amongst the various college teams. The first prize was won by Chandigarh College of Architecture The second prize was given to – Chitkara School of Planning & Architecture, & the third prize was shared by Indo global College of Architecture, Abhipur & Sunderdeep College of Architecture,Ghaziabad.
